Sheep Dog Training Clinics

Sheep Dog Training – South-east Brisbane, Qld.

Sheep Dog training is here at my home at Allenview, between Jimboomba and Beaudesert, South-east Qld.

If you can arrange 10 people and sheep for a weekend or weekdays (2 or 3 days) I am happy to come to you and run a clinic.  Please email me at workingsheepdogshow@bigpond.com to find out more.

My classes are suitable for all breeds of working dogs – kelpies, border collies, shepherds, etc. If you have a heeler you are welcome to come along and you will get a lot out of the day but heelers have a special place in the herding world and it isn’t generally with this type of stock work. My Beginners Classes are ideal for heelers because it will give you an understanding of what heelers are bred for and how they react and interact in your world.

Please ensure you check the location before booking.

Private Classes/One-on-one lessons are available all year round, by appointment.

Weekly Training Days – only for experience people that need to practice working with the sheep.

Beginners Classes are for people who are just starting out on their herding experience. Come and learn the fundamentals of herding stock. This is also the perfect clinic for people who own a brilliant working dog in the city or country environment and want to see if his/her natural instincts are still there. This is also the class where we work on obedience and manners with your working bred dog.

Intermediate Classes can be attended after your first Beginners Class. This is for people who want to do more herding with their dogs. In this class we learn about how sheep will flow off you and your dog. More practice with the sheep and moving you on to a larger space when you are ready. I have found that as there is a lot of detail in this day that some people need to repeat it to get the most out of it. More often then not it is about teaching the handler as most times the dog is progressing quickly under instinct.

Coaching Classes are for my coaching clients. You might need to attend several Intermediate Classes before advancing to Coaching. I will let you know when you are ready for this stage. At these days we get you out into the paddock were you can really start to get the skills that you need to move forward. Once you have shown me that you can manage most of the aspects of working stock you then can come to me and talk about un-supervised training sessions for straight practice.

Special Classes are run to cover specific areas of herding.  This could be in preparation for a short course trial, stock handling generally or other.  You would need to be at Coaching level to attend these clinics.

Private Lessons can be organised in which we can work on any of the three levels above. This is a great way to advance your skills and knowledge at a fast pace.
